WARNING ABOUT ANIMAL THEFTWPC has received reports of dogs stolen from the areas of Howle Hill, Bulls Hill and Leys Hill Make sure you know where your animals are and that they are tagged Climate Change - Herefordshire Newsletter The greenhouse effect
is reaching dangerous levels; climate change is already occurring. We are experiencing more extreme weather conditions that will continue
to increase, affecting humans, animals and ecosystems if nothing is done to stop it. Burning of fossil fuels
for heating, electricity and transportation produces carbon emissions that cause the greenhouse effect. Human impact is thought to be the main contributor to climate change.Reducing our
energy loss and wastage through energy efficiency measures will reduce carbon emissions and help to slow the greenhouse effect. 10 simple energy saving measures that won't cost you anything and
will save you money:
§ Close curtains at dusk to reduce the amount of heat lost through the windows§ Unplug chargers when not in use as they still use electricity § Energy saving light bulbs - each saving you up to £9 per year on your electricity bill § When buying new appliances always choose ones which are A or B rated if possible § Fill your washing machine/dishwasher/tumble dryer to full or use the half load/economy selection § Set the timer on your heating correctly §
Turn your heating thermostat down by 1C § Fill your kettle with only as much water as you need
§ Always turn lights off when you leave a room § Turn appliances off standby when not in use
Loft and cavity wall insulation, draught proofing, thermostatic radiator valves, radiator panels and hot water tank jackets
are minor energy efficiency measures you can install. There are grants available for these works, to find out how much you may be entitled to contact Isabel or Harry at Herefordshire Council (01432 260398 or 261887) or the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre (0800 512012).
Cars are a major source of carbon emissions – a small car produces 2.5 tonnes of carbon per year, this is more than an average family house! So, every time you go to get in your car, think about whether
you can walk, cycle, catch the bus or get a lift? Can you car share to get work each day? www.twoshare.co.uk
provides information about other people in your area that want to share lifts. |
