Planning decisions for the parish are made by Herefordshire Council.  Their web site contains lots of information about when an application is necessary, how to make an application and the policies upon which planning decisions are made.

Obtrusive Lighting: Walford Parish Council have adopted a policy on minimising obtusive lighting - we would ask all people making a planning application to review the Institute of Lighting Engineers guidelines to ensure that their proposed development will not produce any obtrusive lighting. AONB and WPC and LIGHT

Most people who replied to the Walford Parish Plan questionnaire said that they appreciated living in an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty)

The Parish Council has decided that we should encourage this appreciation. We live in an AONB which should be "an intrinsically dark landscape " so that people can enjoy the night sky with little intrusion of light.

We therefore ask you to look at all your exterior lights to check the following points:

(Hints in brackets are to get your children to help in your survey)

1. Are they over-bright for their purpose? (Reduce wattage of bulb and cut costs)

2. Are they pointing downwards to illuminate only the immediate area? (eg entrance door)

3. Is there any spread of light upwards? (Useless and wastes power)

4. Is there any spread of light towards your neighbours (Useless and an intrusion)

5. Are your security lights activated by passing cars? (Adjust them to avoid this as repetitive light-flashing is irritating to neighbours)

6. Are there any lights that shine onto the road so that drivers are blinded or misinterpret them as on-coming vehicles? (Check when you drive back home)

7. Do your exterior lights automatically shut off at 11.00pm? (recommended curfew time. Cuts your electricity bill)

Thank you Clerk to Walford Parish Council

Walford Parish Council is asked to comment on applications made within the parish along with other interested parties and individuals.  The parish council's comments are intended to be what is called 'material' and hence relvant to the planning application.

Material considerations include:

  • The planning authority's local plan (UDP)
  • A site's planning history
  • Accessibility
  • Traffic
  • Roads and parking
  • Archaeology
  • Walford's Parish Plan

Using the buttons on the left you can see the current applications the council has been notified of, any comment made by the council and the final decision made by Herefordshire Council.

If the decision made on the application is more than 3 months old it will be found in the Archive section.
