BORDERS BROADBAND PROJECT UPDATE
Survey forms were sent out to all households and businesses during November and December.  From about 50,000 homes there have been some 4,000 replies so far. Over ½ the responses have been made on line. It is still necessary to maximise the responses as the bidders need to be fully convinced that the demand exists.

YOUR VIEWS ARE IMPORTANT, SO PLEASE RESPOND TO THE SURVEY AT:

1) www.fastbroadband4herefordshire.org.uk
2) At your local Library.
3) By post to: FB4H, PO box 4, Plough Lane, Hereford, HR4 OXH.
4) Or give a completed survey form to the local Broadband Champion:  Cllr Dave Berry, via Walford Village Hall.
The aim is to provide a minimum of 2Mbps broadband speed to the majority of users in Herefordshire and Gloucestershire probably using a mix of technologies i.e. fibre optic, wifi, satellite and cable. It will be up to the bidders to propose the most appropriate technologies.

The Project:

Ÿ
Gap Funding private sector to develop Next Generation Access (NGA) broadband infrastructure & lease it to ISP’s on a wholesale basis
Ÿ
Allowing a range of retail ISP’s to deliver broadband to those who want it
The Project Team schedule:
Ÿ
Currently holding discussions with a number of potential bidders
Ÿ
Full evaluation of outline solutions - January 2012
Ÿ
Assessment of detailed solutions – March 2012
Ÿ
Selection of contractor and issue of contract award notice – May 2012
